12/10/18 | VEILS
Hello ladies! Having had many of you come to me enquiring about birdcage veils, or alternative veils, I’ve decided to dedicate this blog to helping you decide whether a birdcage veil is the right choice for your bridal look.
Covering everything from why brides tend to choose this style of veil, to why I love these bridal accessories in particular.
All the ideas you need to help you choose your birdcage-inspired bridal headpiece are right here!
FIRST THINGS FIRST, WHY SHOULD A BIRDCAGE VEIL BE SOMETHING YOU CONSIDER FOR YOUR BRIDAL LOOK? READ BELOW FOR MY THOUGHTS.
Why Do Brides Opt for a Birdcage Veil?
There are many reasons why a bride might prefer the idea of a birdcage veil over the more ‘traditional’ double layered veils or the showstopping cathedral veils that many of you ask for.
Because birdcage veils are often on headbands (some can come on a comb), they’re practical in unpredictable weather or in small spaces.
Which is why many brides who are getting married in notoriously windy places (for instance, on a cruise ship), or a tight space (as it can be in a civil ceremony) tend to look for this veil alternative.
Another reason why a bride might decide on a birdcage veil is simply because of their bridal style. Or wedding look.
If you’re a fan of all things vintage, for instance, and are opting for a tea length wedding dress. Then a birdcage veil can often be the ideal accessory to compliment your personal bridal style.
3. It’s Something In-between
For those brides who aren’t so sure about walking down the aisle with nothing covering their face, but at the same time don’t exactly fancy the idea of a mass of tulle hiding the beauty beneath. Then birdcage veils offer a brilliant in-between alternative!
They allow your face to be seen by your gorgeous friends & family as you make your way down the aisle. Whilst also adding that bit of mystery and that all important sense that you are the bride!

Why I Love Birdcage Veils.
I’ve always loved birdcage veils because of their delicate design and ‘no-fuss’ nature.
Don’t get me wrong, I adore the countless other styles of veil on offer to brides. Especially the opulence of the cathedral veil!
But there’s something so timeless and nostalgic about a birdcage design for me that I just can’t seem to shake.
And when you throw in the easy-to-wear concept of the hairband or simple clip-in alternative for these veils, I’m hands down in love!
*I’ve been there ladies, believe me, you don’t always want the fuss on your big day!*
Nostalgia aside, birdcage veils have continued to be popular in the modern bridal market due to their versatility and ability to be embellished and adapted to suit more up to date wedding styles.
Notably, they’re now being produced in different colours, with lighter ‘sleeker’ caging, and with more embellishments. Generally including crystals and all things shiny.
Essentially, I love birdcage veils because of their ability to adapt to any style, and any bridal look.
They can be embellished or left ‘naked’, depending on your personality. And they will forever be a delicate and feminine accessory for any bride.

5. The Full Veil
Worn here by the stunning Jennifer Lawrence, this birdcage veil captured my attention because of its simplicity and fullness.
Unlike many birdcage veils, its naked design doesn’t detract from its impact. Thanks to the bunched appearance of the netting at the back of the design, the veil actually looks rich and extravagant.
Paired with the gorgeous satin bow featured on the back of Jennifer’s dress, this is certainly a look to replicate for 2019!
